This is one of the most exciting projects ever! We live in a place where snowboarding & skiing is a day-to-day activity. In fact, in the last 4 seasons each one of us has 80+ days on the mountains and what really counts are those big fluffy & massive powder days!
We were hired form Groundswell Ranch to design the ultimate snow-powder toy. We worked closely together to translate their vision into a 3D CAD file, so they can take it further and produce those bad boys.
The Extra Dimensional Snowcraft is created with only one purpose in mind – to deliver the most insane powder run you can ever get sideways on the mountain. With it’s smooth curvy shapes, the perfection flows from tip to tail. Still aggressive & binding-less, it is the ultimate balance between deep powder ridding & surfing the waves.
The first stage was to design the main shape of this unusual animal. And our client had a vivid imagination. Together we went through a lot of iterations until he finally said “That’s it! I want that under my feet!”
Second stage was to unfold the shape and create templates that can be cut from the row material and applied onto the mold.
And of course the MOLD. This is something you don’t see everyday. A lot of creativity, knowledge and imagination was used to design a mold that will do the job right. A proper communication was the key here. First we researched a various methods and materials that could be used. After that a skilled little shop with the right tools was found. At the end we had to translate and optimize all the files for various manufacturing process.
You can see the final results in the pictures attached to that project. Since the beginning we have designed 3 molds and 9 different snowboard shapes that can be produced using them.
